Take the Fear out of the Gear

Studio lighting is often viewed as a technical hurdle, but it is actually the most consistent tool a photographer can own. Studio Lighting Foundations is a four-hour, hands-on intensive at West Loop Rental Studio designed to provide you with a technical and creative command of the studio environment.

Technical Proficiency & Real-World Application

We use the studio to deconstruct the mechanics of exposure. By learning to build a setup from scratch in a controlled setting, you develop a deeper understanding of light that applies to every shooting scenario, including outdoor sessions and natural light portraits.

What You Will Master

Comprehensive Gear Calibration: We walk through the exact settings for Godox Strobes and Nanlite Continuous units, covering everything from trigger synchronization to power ratios.

Foundational Lighting Patterns: Practical instruction on lighting setups : the building blocks of professional portraiture.

Hands-on Implementation: This is a high-participation workshop. You will spend the session behind the lens, configuring lights and directing a professional model.

Cross-Platform Integration: We provide triggers for Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Fuji so you can focus on the art, not the tech.

Class Bonus

Each student will receive 50% off of a 2-hour rental which is valid for the 3 months following the class. This is an $85 value.

Meet Your Instructor | Dee Zunker

Dee Zunker is a Houston-based commercial photographer with over a decade of professional experience spanning architectural, corporate, and portrait work. She is a Headshot Crew Mentor : a role she was elevated to in December by world-class headshot photographer Peter Hurley himself. As one of a select group of Mentors worldwide, she actively coaches photographers working toward their own Associate status in Peter’s program.

She is passionate about sharing what she knows, because better-equipped photographers make better work. If you want to go deeper beyond the group workshop setting, Dee also offers one-on-one training sessions for a more personalized learning experience tailored to your specific camera, your goals, and your pace.

Dee is also the owner and operator of West Loop Rental Studio, which means she knows this gear and this space inside and out. Her background in engineering and operations gives her a uniquely technical and systematic approach to teaching. She breaks down complex lighting concepts in a way that actually sticks.
